Olubadan: Tinubu, Atiku, Kwakwanso, others to grace Ladoja’s coronation

President Bola Tinubu is among eminent Nigerians expected to grace the official installation of a former governor of Oyo State, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday September 26, 2025.

Chairman of the Coronation Planning Committee of the 44th Olubadan, Chief Bayo Oyero, made the disclosure when he addressed a press conference yesterday at Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, as coronation activities lasting one week will kick off tomorrow (Monday).

Ladoja had said some days ago when he hosted some visitors at his Bodija residence that Tinubu and other dignitaries told him that they would honour him with their attendance of his coronation.

Ladoja, on the occasion also stated that former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwakwanso, and others are among those that have confirmed their attendance for the coronation, which will be held at Mapo Hall Arcade, Ibadan.

The chief host at the coronation will be the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, who will be supported by the President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole and other illustrious sons of Ibadan.

Sunday Sun that Tinubu and Ladoja have been friends since their days in the oil and gas sector, before they both served as senators in the aborted Third Republic from 1992 to 1993.

They also served as governors in the Fourth Republic. Tinubu was governor in Lagos from 1999 to 2007, while Ladoja was governor in Oyo State from 2003 to 2007.

Chairman of the Coronation Planning Committee, Chief Oyero, stated that the installation of Ladoja as the new Olubadan would come with great cultural and historical significance.

Many traditional rulers across Nigeria are also expected to grace the ceremony.

He added that the installation would be a reaffirmation of the unique and timeless chieftaincy system of Ibadanland.

The Ibadan succession process, according to him, is a testament to its democratic and orderly tradition, which has ensured peace and stability for generations in the Ibadan obaship system.

“The ascension of Oba Ladoja is a journey of many years back, a path meticulously followed and guided by the wisdom of the ancestors,” Oyero noted.

He was optimistic that said Ladoja would bring his wealth of experience to the throne, and lead Ibadan into a new era of progress, peace and prosperity.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, in his remarks, thanked Governor Seyi Makinde, and described Olubadan stool as a revered throne and a pride of cultural identity to Ibadanland, Yorubaland, and Nigeria as a whole.

He added that Makinde has been providing exemplary leadership for the state, especially with his high regards for the traditional institution.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, and his counterpart in the Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade; President-General of CCII, Ajeniyi Ajewole; Ekeerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiatives (ICPI), Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade; media aide to Ladoja, Adeola Oloko, and the Olubadan Palace Chaplain, Pastor Olusoji Adediji, were among dignitaries that attended the press conference.
