Federal Polytechnic Oko Alumni from across Nigeria are expected to be in Awka, Anambra State, this weekend as the alumni association celebrates the 40th anniversary of the institution’s graduates.
The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, in Awka, with distinguished alumni, public servants, business leaders, professionals and other guests expected to attend.
The event, organised to mark four decades of the institution’s alumni association, is expected to feature a series of activities, including an alumni lecture, interactive session, keynote address, presentation of a commemorative historical book and awards to distinguished members and supporters of the institution.
Among the notable figures listed for the event is the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State and distinguished alumnus of the institution, Tayo Aiyinde, who will deliver the alumni lecture.
The lecture will be moderated by Kingsley Datubor Uranta, General Manager, Channels Television/Channels Academy.
The keynote address will be delivered by Ben Nwankwo, former member of the House of Representatives, former Commissioner in Anambra State and former Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State.
A major highlight of the celebration will be the presentation of the 40th anniversary commemorative historical book, titled, ‘Oko Polymaths,’ which documents the history and achievements of the polytechnic and its graduates.
The anniversary will also recognise individuals, who have contributed to the growth of the institution and the alumni community through various awards, including the Polytechnic Star Award, Iconic Ambassador Award, Distinguished Pioneer Academic Leadership Award, Pioneer Hospitality Education Award, Distinguished Service Award and Excellence in Leadership and Public Service Award.
Other categories include the Education Leadership and Empowerment Award, Special Recognition Awards and other honours for distinguished alumni, pioneers, academics, public servants, philanthropists and friends of the Polytechnic.
The programme will also feature goodwill messages from distinguished alumni, institutional partners, friends of the polytechnic, sponsors and philanthropists, as well as an anniversary toast and the cutting of the 40th anniversary cake.
The celebration is expected to provide an opportunity for graduates of the polytechnic to reconnect, celebrate their achievements and reflect on the institution’s journey over the past 40 years.
The event will climax with a presidential sit-out, providing an opportunity for alumni, guests, awardees and friends of the association to network and celebrate.
