The Secretary of Okija Development Union, Peter Awah, was murdered by gunmen suspected to be assassins on Sunday night.
Awah, a lawyer, was shot while sitting in his compound at Umudioka-Umuohi Okija in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The motive for the murder remains unclear. However, some community members believe it may be connected to the ongoing fight between the community and criminal elements.
Okija and other parts of Ihiala have been plagued by gunmen operating around the border communities between Anambra and Imo States.
The police have yet to comment on the incident. Awah’s body has been taken to the mortuary, and an investigation is underway.
