The African creative industry is entering a new phase of innovation. From Nollywood blockbusters to digital storytelling across YouTube and streaming platforms, African creators are breaking barriers, yet they still lack access to high-performance, reliable tools that match their creative ambition.
This has continued to limit their growth, but that reality is beginning to shift.
Okey Japan Audio Visual Ltd., one of Nigeria’s most trusted names in photography and audiovisual technology, has partnered with Hollyland, a leading global manufacturer of wireless video and audio transmission systems. The collaboration aims to make advanced, wireless technology more accessible to African filmmakers, videographers, and content creators.
At the center of this development is Mr. Okechukwu Kevin Onwuka, founder of Okey Japan Audio Visual Ltd, is widely regarded as Nigeria and West Africa’s No. 1 camera and audio shop. With a deep passion for photography and audiovisual innovation, Mr. Onwuka has witnessed and shaped the evolution of the industry, from manual photography to the digital era.
“When I started out, photography and videography were fully manual,” he recalled. “You needed patience, precision, and years of practice to get it right. Today, creativity is limitless; but only when people have access to the right tools. That’s what we’re solving with this partnership.”
Hollyland, founded in 2013, has built a loyal following among filmmakers in Asia, Europe, and the Americas for its practical, reliable, and affordable solutions.
Now, for the first time, African creators will be able to join what the company calls the “Hollyland Family” through distribution led by Okey Japan.
“African creators are pushing boundaries every day, and Hollyland has a strong global reputation for reliable and affordable wireless solutions used by professionals in film production, broadcasting, and live events. ” Mr. Onwuka said. “Through this collaboration, we plan to bridge the equipment gap because it’s time Africa joined the global conversation on creativity and innovation, not as spectators, but as leaders.”
Beyond supplying equipment, Mr. Onwuka has also championed training and community engagement among creative professionals. “Our commitment has always been to quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction,” he explained. “We’re not just selling cameras or audio gear; we’re building an ecosystem as every tool we provide empowers someone to tell a story that matters.”
Looking to the future, Mr. Onwuka believes partnerships like this will continue to redefine the continent’s creative landscape. “This is not just a business move; it’s a statement of confidence in African talent,” he concludes. “We’re saying that our creators deserve the best, and we’re ready to give them that. When we equip them properly, the world will see the full brilliance of African creativity.”
