Former Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu has disagreed with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, over his remarks on the state of federal roads in the South-West.
In a Monday post on Facebook, Ojudu said he had listened to the governor reel off a list of roads supposedly under construction across Yorubaland and urged him to always get his facts right.
“I may not know the exact condition of every federal road in the South-West, but I certainly know what is happening in Ekiti State,” Ojudu said.
He listed several projects he said were not progressing, in spite of the governor’s assertion.
According to the former Ekiti Central senator, the Ado-Ekiti–Aramoko road, which the governor claimed is under construction, “is not. No work is currently going on there.”
He explained that the road from Ado-Ekiti to the Akoko axis of Ondo State, which passes through Afe Babalola University, “has long been abandoned” despite repeated protests from legal luminary and proprietor of the university, Chief Afe Babalola.
Noting that Babalola was “deeply distressed” by its abandonment, Ojudu said, “He has raised his voice repeatedly, appealing to everyone who might listen, to the point that his voice has almost become hoarse.”
Ojudu further stated that the Ado-Ekiti–Akure road is “still waiting for completion” while the Ondo–Ore road project “remains abandoned.”
He added that the Ado-Ekiti–Oye–Ilupeju–Omuo road is “virtually impassable,” as is the road from Ido-Ekiti to Ijero-Ekiti.
Ojudu said the roads in question are federal roads and have either collapsed, been abandoned or remain painfully incomplete.
With elections approaching, the ex-senator said the condition of the roads “will matter to the people.”
“Speeches and lists cannot take the place of motorable roads,” he stated.
