Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed sadness over the passing of Ferdinand Agu, a highly respected Igbo leader and former Managing Director of the Nigerian Maritime Authority (now NIMSA).
The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, who signed the statement on Saturday said that Agu was known for his integrity, public spirit, and exceptional skills.
According to Ogbonnia, “Agu held several important positions, including former Managing Director of the Nigerian Maritime Authority and Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria. He was also deeply involved in the efforts to restructure Nigeria and develop the Igbo community.
“He worked with notable figures like Professor Charles Soludo to produce the Ohanaeze document for restructuring Nigeria, which was presented in 2018. He played a key role in the election of the late Professor George Obiozor as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, expressed deep sorrow over Agu’s passing, highlighting the loss of a brilliant mind whose potential was not fully harnessed by Nigeria.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo also extended condolences to Agu’s family, the Obinagu Udi community, and the people of Enugu State, while praying for his soul’s eternal rest.
