Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide on Saturday led Ndigbo across Nigeria and in the diaspora in the maiden observance of Igbo Adoration and Thanksgiving Day, marked in churches throughout Igbo land and by Igbo communities around the world.
The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, joined members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to worship at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, in what the organisation described as a solemn day set aside to thank God for His mercy, preservation and guidance of the Igbo people through decades of trials and challenges.
The Holy Mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Michael Ogbu, who used the occasion to urge Ndigbo to remain steadfast in prayer and committed to preserving their identity and values.
In his sermon, Fr. Ogbu said: “The Igbo people have every reason to return thanks to God. From the days of the civil war to this present time, God has preserved you as a people. You are known as life-givers, industrious, resilient and deeply faithful.

“The same God who sustained you through difficult times will not abandon you now. What is required is that you continue to trust Him, remain prayerful, and hold firmly to your identity wherever you find yourselves.”
Speaking after the service, Senator Mbata expressed appreciation to Ndigbo worldwide for keying into the initiative and observing the day in unity.
He said: “Today is a special day for Ndigbo across the world. It is a day we collectively decided to set aside to adore God and give thanks for His unfailing love and protection over our people. Despite the many challenges we have faced as a people, God has kept us, guided us and continued to bless us.
“I thank Ndigbo everywhere for observing this day and I encourage our people to remain resolute, prayerful, law-abiding, focused and worthy ambassadors of Alaigbo wherever they reside.”
