President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has appointed a 68-member presidential advisory council.
He disclosed that the council will soon be constituted.
Iwuanyanwu who disclosed these at the National Executive Committee (NEC) in Enugu, stated that his leadership will continue to advance Igbo cause in Nigeria through the involvement and engagement of the best Igbo brains and hands in reclaiming the pride of place for the Igbo in Nigeria.
According to him, the members of the advisory council are sons and daughters of Igbo land that have distinguished themselves with laurels in their various fields whose advice will be highly invaluable in accomplishing the task before the race
Top on the list of the advisory council members are former Secretary General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Governors of Anambra and Imo States, Chukwuma Soludo and Hope Uzodimma, immediate past governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and former Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige.
Others are publisher of ThisDay Newspapers, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, Chief Nnia Nwodo, Chief Martin Elechi, Prof. Pat Utomi, Gen. Obi Umahi (rtd), Chief (Mrs.) Kema Chikwe, Ned Nwoko, and Prof. Maurice Iwu.
Also on the list are retired Inspector General of Police, Mike Okoro, former President of the Senate, Ken Nnamani, Chief Cletus Ibeto, Tony Elumelu, Amb. Bianca Ojukwu and Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), among others.
A statement by National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, said that Iwuanyanwu since assumption of office as PG, has demonstrated enormous zeal, commitment, sacrifice and responsibility in repositioning the Igbo socio-cultural organization to an enviable height.
Ogbonnia recalled that Iwuanyanwu recently held fruitful discussions with leaders of various Igbo groups as well as Igbo clergy in search of a middle ground for moving the organization forward and resolve the challenges besetting Ohanaeze.
At the meeting, he reiterated that his leadership would pursue programmes that will transform the Igbo territory into an economic hub capable of attracting businesses from all parts of the world.
The policy framework spans the reactivation of cement industry at Nkalagu, reactivation of coal industry at Enugu; power, agriculture, health, transportation, security, investment development corporation, education, sports, culture, tourism, etc.
Iwuanyanwu lamented that what has held the Igbo down is the inability to harness the abundant resources and the enormous potentials that the Almighty endowed in them.
