The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspected ritualists, who specialised in exhuming dead bodies for ritual purposes.
The suspects, who the police said were not allowing the dead to rest, were arrested last Saturday. The police said the suspects were members of a ritualist gang, who have been exhuming dead bodies from their graves and removing parts of their bodies for ritual purposes.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, said: “The suspects: Oshole Fayemi, 60; Osemi Adesanya, 39; Ismaila Seidu, 30; Oseni Oluwasegun, 69, and Lawal Olaiya, 50, were arrested, following information received by the police at the Odogbolu Divisional Headquarters, that the gang, who were responsible for series of corpse exhumation within the Ososa community, were planning to visit somewhere within the town to carry out another round of human parts harvest.
“Upon the information, the DPO, Odogbolu division, Godwin Idehai, mobilised his men and stormed the suspects’ hideout, where five of them were apprehended.
“On interrogation, the suspects made confessional statements that they were actually into the business of exhuming the dead from their graves, and that they used to sell parts of such dead bodies to their standby buyers, who needed them for money making rituals.”
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Frank Mba, has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments (SCID) for discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
