The Ogun State Police Command has received three awards at the Golden Jubilee Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, held to mark 50 years of the union in the state.
The awards came as the NUJ and Ogun State marked their respective 50th anniversaries.
The Command received the Shield of Public Safety Award, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, was named a Golden Jubilee Ambassador. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, also received the Vanguard of Public Safety Award.
The week-long celebration, held from October 26 to November 1, 2026, was themed, “Truth, Trust and the Press: Protecting Democratic Choice and Rebuilding Public Confidence in Journalism.”
A major highlight was a panel session featuring CP Ojajuni, who urged journalists to uphold truth, professional ethics and patriotism, stressing the importance of responsible journalism to national development and public confidence in institutions.
At the grand finale, the Command received the Shield of Public Safety Award in recognition of its proactive policing strategies, operational achievements and commitment to protecting lives and property.
Receiving the award, Ojajuni attributed the Command’s achievements, particularly the impact of Operation KOSAYE, to the strategic direction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, under the Handshake Patrol initiative.
He said the operation was executed on the IGP’s directive through collaboration between the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands, with the support of the governors of both states.
According to him, the initiative strengthened inter-state security cooperation and enhanced coordinated efforts to prevent and combat criminal activities.
Ojajuni was also honoured as a Golden Jubilee Ambassador alongside 49 other distinguished personalities.
The recognition reflected his leadership and contributions to policing in Ogun State, where he previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department and Squadron Commander of the 16 Police Mobile Force, Abeokuta, before his appointment as Commissioner of Police.
