The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate operations involving the alleged vandalisation of railway infrastructure and the theft of a motorcycle and a generator.
In the first operation, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit arrested a 36-year-old suspect, Shobande Taofeek, over alleged vandalisation and theft of railway materials in the Arigbajo axis of the state. The operation led to the recovery of 16 railway iron rods and two gas cylinders.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the arrest followed intelligence reports about the vandalisation and theft of railway materials in the area.
According to him, SWAT operatives intensified surveillance and patrols in the affected area on October 23, 2026, leading to the suspect’s arrest. He said the suspect subsequently led the operatives to an uncompleted building where the stolen items were recovered as exhibits.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly confessed to involvement in similar offences on three previous occasions. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects connected with the crime and recover any additional stolen property,” Babaseyi said.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting public assets, safeguarding critical infrastructure and bringing perpetrators of economic sabotage to justice. He urged residents to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and promote safer communities across the state.
In a separate operation, police operatives attached to the Ewekoro Division arrested a suspected motorcycle and generator thief following a tip-off from a vigilant member of the public.
Babaseyi said that at about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, a motorist travelling along the Onigbedu–Itori Road sighted an unregistered tricycle conveying a grey Haojue Lady motorcycle and a Firman generator, with two passengers on board.
Suspecting that the items might have been stolen, the motorist promptly alerted the police while trailing the tricycle to Complex Junction, Itori, towards Papalanto.

The police spokesman said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplice.
He added that preliminary investigations had linked the recovered motorcycle and generator to a theft reported in Itori.
The suspect remains in custody as detectives intensify investigations to establish the full circumstances of the incident and apprehend other persons connected with the alleged crime.
Ojajuni commended the operatives for their prompt response, noting that timely intelligence and effective police action were vital to preventing crime and safeguarding property.
He also praised the motorist for his vigilance and civic responsibility, saying the information provided enabled the police to intervene.
The CP reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain proactive patrols, respond promptly to credible intelligence and prevent criminal activities across Ogun State.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the police, stressing that timely information could help prevent crime.
