Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, have intercepted and seized narcotics worth over N463million.
The Acting Customs Area Controller in charge of Ogun 1 Area Command, Oladapo Afeni, who made this known on Wednesday, while briefing journalists at the Customs Sentry, Idiroko, Ogun State, disclosed that the seized narcotics include 16 pieces of heroine weighing 16Kg; 11 wraps of crystal meth (ICE) weighing 12Kg; 128 doughnut size; 2,752 coconut size and 401 booklet size of cannabis sativa weighing 1,502Kg.
Afeni added that the quantity of the Cannabis Sativa was intercepted in six intelligence driven operations between Thursday, December 4 and Monday December 15, 2025 across various locations in the state.
He noted that the seizure of the narcotics is particularly worrisome, given their far-reaching negative impact on the youth, public health, and national security.
The Customs Area Controller declared that his command would continue to leverage on technology, intelligence, and inter-agency collaboration to dislodge the criminal networks who do not mean well for the collective wellbeing of people and safety of the society.
The customs boss, however, handed over the seized narcotics to the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Idiroko Special Command, Ekundayo William for further necessary actions.
Speaking of other anti-smuggling activities of the Ogun 1 Area Command, Afeni said that the gallant operatives of the command, on December 12, 2025, successfully intercepted Iveco Truck with Reg. No. RMY-354-XA laden with 4,998 cartons of Doga brand Spaghetti 10Kg each, and 419 cartons of Oba brand Spaghetti 10kg each illegally imported from Turkey.

“Again on 13 December, 2025, our operatives intercepted a DAF truck with Reg. No. JHN-590-X, carrying 2,200 kegs of vegetable oil 25 liters each of Indonesian origin. These food items are designated as contraband goods and are absolutely prohibited for importation in Nigeria. The combined Duty Paid Value of the food items stand at N291,260,000, while the trucks used as means of conveyance are worth N222m.
“The dangers in these food items finding their way to the open market lie in consuming substandard products that have not been subjected to health checks and declared fit for consumption by relevant agencies in Nigeria. It may interest us to know that unscrupulous tradesmen deliberately smuggle in substandard food items and profit on the health risk of non-suspecting Nigerians. The trucks and content therein all stand to be forfeited to the Federal Government in line with extant laws and guidelines”, he stated
Other seizures made by the Ogun 1 Area Command according to Afeni include 6,750 litres of petrol; 4,738 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each; two units of foreign-used vehicles; eight units of means of conveyance, 309 bundles of pneumatic tyres.
He put the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures of the items intercepted at Lusada/Ado-Odo axis, Abule Kazeem/Igbo-Ora road, Abeokuta axis, Imeko axis, Idiroko/Owode axis, and Ipokia axis among others, at N1.5billion.
On revenue generation, Afeni said though the Ogun 1 Area Command is primarily an enforcement command, it was able to generate a sum of N27,291,861million, through the diligence of his officers and men, and cooperation of compliant traders.
While reaffirming the unwavering resolve of the command to sustain the fight against smugglers and their collaborators, he said “we remain vigilant, alert, and ready to confront any threat to the economic, and security interests of our nation”.
“As promised, we have intensified surveillance, deployed strategic intelligence, strengthened collaboration with sister agencies and community stakeholders to enhance border operations”, Afeni submitted.
