From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
The Ogun State Government has announced the approval of five key roads for reconstruction across the state’s senatorial districts.
The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, made this known on Thursday while briefing journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Mr Akinsanya informed reporters that at the last State Executive Council meeting, Governor Dapo Abiodun approved the reconstruction of roads in Ifo, Yewa South, and Ijebu Ode Local Government Areas.
He said the Akute-Ajuwon, Alagbole-Ajuwon, and Toyin Hercules Giwa roads, all in Ifo Local Government Area (Ogun Central Senatorial District), were approved for reconstruction.
Additionally, Oke Erinja Road in Yewa South Local Government Area (Ogun West Senatorial District) and Awokoya Road in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area (Ogun East Senatorial District) were also selected for reconstruction.
The commissioner stated that construction work on the remaining 17km of the Sango-Ijoko-Oke Aro road would begin soon. He explained that the work would be divided into two phases, starting from the Oke Aro section.

Mr Akinsanya disclosed that 14 road projects were ongoing simultaneously across the state. He added that the Ogun State Ministry of Works was rehabilitating 21 federal roads in partnership with the Federal Government.
These roads include the Arobieye roundabout to Abiola Olaiya in Ado-Odo/Ota; Iwoye/Imeko road in Imeko-Afon; Ado-Odo/Ikoga road in Yewa South; Old Ondo-Benin Road (Lagos Garage), Ijebu-Ode; and Abule Ojere-Oba-Kobape road in Obafemi Owode Local Government Areas.
He added that reconstruction work would soon begin on the Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway, as the contract had been signed with Craneburg Construction Company in April 2024.
“Though the Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway belongs to the Federal Government, the state government, after reaching an understanding with the FG, awarded the contract to Craneburg Construction Company in April. In May, the company finally agreed to take on the reconstruction work. As we speak, Ogun and the Federal Government are finalising some paperwork. Very soon, work will start on the expressway.
“Apart from that road, Governor Abiodun facilitated the construction of some key road projects belonging to the Federal Government. Some of these roads include Laderin-Train Station Road in Abeokuta, the state capital; the Sango-Atan-Owode-Idi Iroko road; and the 100km Sagamu-Papalanto-Ilaro road,” Mr Akinsanya stated.
