Ogun APC crisis deepens as Hunye, party clash over 2027 governorship ticket

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State is facing fresh internal tensions after governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye challenged the process that produced Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.

Hunye, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, said he had gone to court because he believed the party’s governorship primary was flawed. He stressed that he was not presenting himself as the APC candidate but was seeking redress over the conduct of the primary.

The aspirant questioned the circumstances surrounding his participation in the process, particularly after he paid N50 million for the party’s nomination form and was cleared to contest.

Hunye alleged that some party leaders had pressured him to abandon his ambition because of an alleged decision to make Adeola the sole candidate.

He also claimed that he was left out of a meeting involving former governors and was warned against proceeding with his governorship bid.

Despite the alleged pressure, Hunye said he would continue to pursue the matter through the courts and other legitimate channels.

The Ogun APC, however, has rejected Hunye’s position and maintained that Adeola is the party’s recognised candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The party, in a statement issued by its National Secretariat and Ogun State Working Committee, accused Hunye of impersonating an APC candidate and misleading the public.

The party also said Hunye had ceased to be a member in good standing after his suspension by his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area on April 7, 2026.

According to the APC, the suspension followed allegations of anti-party activities.

The party has subsequently petitioned the Inspector General of Police, asking for an investigation into the allegations of impersonation and related claims.

While the dispute continues, the APC said Adeola and his running mate, Kudirat Balogun, have had their credentials validated on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
