From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
A philanthropist, Dr. Ismail Bola Akindele, has pledged to enrol no fewer than 100 sickle cell patients in Ogun State into the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Akindele who stated this in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, at the weekend, said the gesture was part of his efforts to offer support to a foundation, Dotun Oladipupo Foundation for Sickle Cell.
He added that the plan was also to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the NGO being run by a sickle cell warrior and lecturer, Dotun Oladipupo.
Akindele expressed optimism that this initiative would help to cushion the cost of treatment incurred by the patients.
Meanwhile, in a statement by the President of sickle cell foundation, Dotun Oladipupo, said that in recognition of the philanthropist’s support, Akindele would be conferred with the foundation’s Grand Patron Award at its 15th anniversary on December 11.
Oladipupo said, “The sustained commitment and support of Dr Akindele to the cause of the sickle cell community in Ogun State is why he is to be conferred as the Grand Patron of the foundation at the event marking the 15th anniversary of the foundation, slated to hold on December 11 in Abeokuta.
“Among other notable conferments and honours are those of Dr Isiaq Kunle Salako, Minister of State for Health, and Hon Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, member representing Yewa North/Imeko Afon”.
