The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Chinedu Ogah, over the weekend, distributed 200 bags of 25kg rice seeds to farmers in the constituency.
He also shared N70 million to them for cultivation of the rice seeds and urged farmers to go into agriculture to tackle hunger and ensure food sufficiency.
The Chairman, House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, described agriculture as solution to the hunger and general hardship in the country and urged the people to embrace farming to survive the situation.
He noted that the distribution of the rice seeds and financial grants to the rural farmers was to improve agriculture in his constituency.
He warned the farmers against consuming the seeds saying, “I want to thank the president for allowing us to bring the dividends of democracy to our people.
“It is in support of the good administration of the state governor, Francis Nwifuru. I thank you for believing in me.
“Let me warn, do not cook and eat this rice, it is not good for consumption; take it straight to the farm. If you eat it and have any problems, don’t call my name.”
Governor Nwifuru, represented by his Special Assistant on Agriculture, Ofoke Kiran, urged the beneficiaries to go into farming to boost food sufficiency in the state.
