In a major boost for Nigeria’s entertainment scene, Odogwu Group, one of the country’s leading beverage and herbal drink producers, has been unveiled as the headline sponsor for the 2024 edition of Lafftacy with Mc Layor. This year’s show, themed “Fatherhood & I,” will take place on October 27, 2024, at The Dome in Akure, Ondo State. Organized by Lafftabanc Incorporation, the award-winning comedy concert is expected to bring together fans and lovers of comedy for a night of premium laughter and entertainment.
The announcement was made by Owoleye Omotayo Ayodeji, popularly known as Mc Layor, the convener and star of the show. Sharing his excitement about the partnership with Odogwu Group, Mc Layor expressed his joy at having the support of one of Nigeria’s most renowned brands. Odogwu Group, led by billionaire businessman Obinna Iyiegbu, also known as Obi Cubana, is well-known for its flagship products Odogwu Bitters, Odogwu Marlay, and Odogwu Hammer. The group’s backing of Lafftacy with Mc Layor signifies its growing involvement in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
In his statement, Mc Layor shared his appreciation for Obi Cubana’s business wisdom and mentorship, noting that the entrepreneur’s success has inspired him greatly. “You need to be in that room with me, having conversations with Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana,” he said. “He is someone who understands how to convert 1 to 10. I’ve learned a lot from him business-wise, and it’s inspiring to see that despite their success, these people are just like us.”
Mc Layor emphasized the significance of the partnership, adding that it will raise the profile of the show and ensure this year’s edition will be the biggest yet. “I’m so happy, and trust me, Obi Cubana gave his word. He’s coming to Ondo State, and Odogwu is coming to Ondo State. By the grace of God, we’ll do it big!” he said enthusiastically.
In addition to the Odogwu Group sponsorship, Lafftacy with Mc Layor has also secured a partnership with the Nigerian government. The show received endorsement from the Presidency through the office of the Minister of State for Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, and the office of the Special Assistant on Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hon. Ayo Adeagbo. This collaboration further highlights the significance of the event and underscores the growing importance of entertainment and culture in Nigeria’s national development.
The theme for this year’s edition, “Fatherhood & I,” is deeply personal for Mc Layor, who has recently become a father. Reflecting on his experiences, he explained that fatherhood has brought a new perspective to his life and career, and he is eager to share stories about his journey as a parent with his audience. “I’ve been a father for over a year now, and I want to tell some stories about being a father,” he said. “What has helped me stay consistent is number one, God Almighty, the creator of men and the giver of talent. Then number two, networking. You can’t displace the place of networking. Then number three, spontaneity. I tend to be spontaneous about how I carry myself.”
Mc Layor also highlighted the importance of branding and reinvention in his career, stating that his ability to rebrand himself over time has been key to his success.
With Odogwu Group and the Presidency as partners, this year’s Lafftacy with Mc Layor promises to be a standout event, combining humor, personal stories, and top-tier entertainment for a night to remember.
