Former Rivers State governor and founder of PAMO University of Medical Sciences (PUMS), Dr Peter Odili, has approved offered employment to the best graduating students in three health disciplines, as 28 graduates were inducted into their professions.
The announcement was made at the university’s joint induction and oath-taking ceremony for Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science as well as Radiography and Radiation Science graduates in Port Harcourt on Friday.
In an address read on his behalf by Professor Adaeze Odili-Oreh, who represented the Board of Trustees and Governing Council, he said the employment offer was intended to reward excellence and retain top talent trained by the institution.
He congratulated the inductees on their resilience and discipline, describing the ceremony as a reminder that modern healthcare depends on collaboration.
“No single profession stands alone in delivering safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care,” he said.
Odili described medical laboratory scientists as the detectives of medicine, providing diagnostic evidence for clinical decisions, treatment plans and disease surveillance.

He described nurses as the backbone of patient care, supporting recovery, comfort and safety through compassion, clinical skill and vigilance.
Radiography and Radiation Science professionals, he said, were the eyes of medicine, contributing to diagnosis and therapy through advanced imaging and artificial intelligence.
He urged the inductees to uphold PUMS’s values of excellence, character and service, and to demonstrate empathy, integrity and respect for human dignity.
Odili thanked the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria for their guidance and partnership.
The three councils inducted and administered professional oaths to the 28 graduates, comprising three in Medical Laboratory Science, 17 in Nursing Science and eight in Radiography and Radiation Science.
Odili urged the new professionals to maintain high standards and work together in the best interests of patients and the healthcare system.
