Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborewvori has charged corps members who are posted to the state to be patriotic and uphold the high standards of discipline, and integrity.
Oborewvori gave the charge at the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation course at the NYSC camp at Issele-Uku, Aniocha North local government area of the state.
Representing the Governor at the ceremony, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Kingsley Emu said the
orientation course is a critical foundation of the National Youth Service Corps programme.
Oborewvori urged corps members to participate fully in all camp activities, lectures, drills, and skills acquisition programmes,
designed to instill discipline, resilience, and the practical knowledge required for a productive service year and a purposeful future.
He added that the orientation camp offers a unique opportunity for national integration to learn and interact with fellow Nigerians from diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.
While encouraging corps members to use the opportunity to build friendships, deepen mutual respect, and strengthen the unity that remains the cornerstone of our nationhood and national development.
According to him, “I encourage you to take these seriously, particularly the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme, which is key to fostering self-reliance and reducing dependence on white-collar jobs.”
“My dear corps members, as you embark on this national assignment, uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and patriotism. Be law-abiding, respect the customs of your host communities, and conduct yourselves as worthy ambassadors of this great nation.”

In his welcome speech, the state coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, said a total of two thousand six hundred and eleven (2,611) prospective corps members, comprising one thousand two hundred and three (1,203) males and one thousand four hundred and eight (1,408) females, were registered as of midnight on Friday, 24th April, 2026.
He noted that the three- week orientation course is carefully designed to equip corps members with the necessary skills and right values for national development.
He said the course is aimed at instilling
discipline, leadership values, perseverance, humility, and endurance in all
participants, with a view to promoting unity in diversity through peaceful coexistence.
He, therefore, urges corps members to participate actively in all camp activities and abide by the rules guiding the orientation course.
He also appreciated the Delta State Government for its consistent and unwavering support to the NYSC for the reconstruction of the camp perimeter fence, construction of the internal road
network, and reticulation of water, among other projects, which have greatly enhanced the security of lives and property and also significantly improved the overall
camp infrastructure.
He, however, appealed to the State Governor for more support for the multi-purpose hall, which hosts major camp activities, and it is currently leaking and requires urgent repairs to prevent disruption of programmes.
Also, there is a need for an additional borehole to complement the existing one, which has become inadequate, particularly during the dry season and the increasing Corps population.
