Obi groups train election monitors

Two support groups of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, have trained grassroots volunteers on election monitoring and voters’ mobilisation.

The groups include Diaspora Medics 4 Good Governance (DM4GG) and Peter Obi Support Network (POSN).

With the theme: “Developing Grassroots Structures for Effective People Oriented Democracy,” the training, which was held in Asaba, Delta State, was attended by volunteers from the 11 states of the South East and South South geo-political zones.

Objective of the training, according to the organisers was to address rising concerns regarding voters’ apathy, wrong voting that lead to invalidation of casted ballots, among others.

Delta State Chairman of LP, Tony Ezeagwu, emphasized the need for volunteers and supporters of Obi to consciously project the party’s logo, explaining that it was the only thing that would appear on the ballot paper on the election day. 

Global Coordinator of POSN, Augusta Nneka, corroborated Ezeagwu’s position, and announced the group’s readiness to mobilise thousands of members across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria, as well as wards and polling units during the election next year.

Speaking on behalf of DM4GG, Director of Administration of the group, Chukwudi Muojieje, emphasised their commitment to ensuring good governance is enthroned in Nigeria at all levels of government.

He said there has been medical outreaches, adding that during the continuous votes’ registration exercise, the group used many channels to educate eligible voters and encourage them to get their PVCs.
