The race for Owo Local Government Chairman is heating up and leading aspirant, Obanoyen Abiola Sikiru, popularly known as Adidas Datiwa, is leaving no stone unturned in becoming the next local government chairman by touring all the wards that make up the local government.
As part of his campaign tour, Adidas Datiwa has visited Iloro Ward 6 to share his manifesto with the enthusiastic party leaders, stakeholders, and members
Obanoyen emphasised why he is the best candidate to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Council Chairman contest scheduled for January 18, 2025
His message resonated with the people, particularly leaders of the party at the local government and ward level who were impressed by his manifesto tagged: “Back to the basic: Restoring the promise of good governance, a vision for Owo local government.”
His message includes restoring the promise of local governance.
“Decades ago, local governments in Nigeria were the driving force behind addressing the fundamental challenges of our communities.
“They were the first line of action, solving problems where they mattered most—at the grassroots level.
“Unfortunately, over time, ineffective governance and neglect have left local administrations in the hands of unprepared and under-resourced individuals, resulting in stagnation and unfulfilled promises.
“However, there is renewed hope for progress. The recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the financial autonomy of Local Governments marks a pivotal moment in our history. With this autonomy comes not just freedom but also a greater responsibility—a responsibility to deliver real and lasting change for our people.
“Now is the time for Owo Local Government to seize this opportunity and once again make a meaningful impact in the lives of our citizens. It is time to return to the basics of good governance and community-driven development.
“Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous future for Owo. That’s why I, Obanoyen Sikiru Abiola, aka ADIDAS, is asking for your support to serve as Chairman of Owo Local Government.”
Obanoyen later revealed his agenda which he encapsulated in a seven-theme Policy Blueprint designed to restore local governance and ensure that the government works for everyone.
