Oba Rashidi Ladoja: Service Par-Excellence

Rashidi-Ladoja-agrees-to-wear-beaded-crown

Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja

His Royal Majesty Oba Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, Arusa 1, is a typical example of uncommon resilience and doggedness. In many fields, he has left his footprints of success, being a rare breed of Chemical Engineer, shrewd businessman, and savvy politician.

Above all these, in the fullness of time, he became the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on September 26, 2025 just a day after his 81st birthday.

Oba Ladoja has one of the most eventful and rich political history among your class, having served as Governor of Oyo State, twice within one term – from 2003 to 2006 and from 2006 to 2007. That complexity came as a result of his impeachment on January 12, 2006, and his heroic return to the same office on November 11, the same year.

From Ibadan Boys High School, 1958 to 1963 to the University of Liège in Belgium where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering, he prepared himself for a multifaceted career.

For 13 years, he distinguished himself as a staff of Total Nigeria in different capacities. Thereafter, he entered into private business in 1985 and later expanded his business interests to shipping, manufacturing, banking, agriculture and transportation, among others. And in all, he excelled.

Many times in the past, he was thoroughly vilified, victimised, and almost crucified. In almost all cases, he was vindicated. He dares whoever has guts to challenge him. His legacies are novel and he is an unrepentant stickler to his gun. Even when others think life has become damn too risky, he forges ahead.

His friends admire him, his friends risk disregarding him. He has seen, conquered and is still conquering.

Oba Rashidi Ladoja wins The Sun Lifetime Achievement Award for 2025.
