The Director, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) South-South Area Office, Alhaji Ladn Baba, yesterday, decried the rates at which employers of corps members, in connivance with the corps members, stage manage their rejections.
He expressed his resentment at the 2023 NYSC Corps Employers Workshop held in Benin City.
Alhaji Baba, represented by Mr. Iwu Augustine, said there are a lot of issues that must be dealt with in order for the scheme to achieve its full potentials.
He said it is a common knowledge that some Corps employers are helping corps members posted to them by the scheme to reject their posting instead of encouraging them to stay, learn and contribute their quota to the development of the organisation they are posted to.
Baba also said the employers also help their corps members to abscond from their primary place of assignments.
He said the theme”Harnessing the potentials of corps members through effective utilization” is very apt as it will help promote corps members and employers relationship.
He called on the employers of corps members to take the welfare of corps members posted to their establishments seriously so that it would be a win-win situation for both parties.
Earlier, the Edo State coordinator, Mal. Suleiman Ibrahim, said since the inception, the NYSC management/corps employers forum has enable both parties to continually enhance their capacity for effective management and engagement of corps members.
He said the scheme has been able to also position the young men and women on national service as change agents and key contributors to the development of the country.
