NYSC abduction: 3 arraigned in court, plead not guilty

NYSC cap

Hearing has just started in the case of the abduction of twenty corps members in Owerri on October 1, 2026.

Proceedings commenced with the reading of Count 3 charges against Usman Aliu, Muhammad Aliu and Babangida Aliu and others now at large.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants were involved in the abduction.

According to the particulars read in court, the defendants allegedly demanded and collected Forty-Eight Million Naira (N48,000,000) and an undisclosed amount in US Dollars for their release.

This is coming as a twist to the October 1 abduction where a parent had earlier alleged that Six Million Naira (N6,000,000) was demanded for her son’s release, but the prosecution told the court that the total amount allegedly collected from victims is now put at N48 million plus dollars.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Similarly, two other suspects who were also allegedly involved in abduction of other passengers same day and at same venue, Usman Aminu and Taju Ibrahim also pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge.

Trial continues on Thursday, 22nd according to the presiding judge, Emeka Amafuru.
