The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Operation Delta Safe, Major General Everest Ifeanyi Okoro, has described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as a national asset crucial and beneficial to Nigerians.
General Okoro stated this at Bori Camp Barracks, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the weekend, when he received the State Coordinator, NYSC Rivers State, Mr Moses Oleghe, and members of his management team on a courtesy visit.
He commended the NYSC management and corps members for their unique role in nation-building, promotion of national unity and cultural integration among Nigerians irrespective of differences in tribe and tongue.
The GOC assured the State Coordinator that the Division will always activate top-notch security measures to curb security threats against corps members, especially during their arrival for orientation camp in the state.
He also lauded Oleghe for his passion and integrity in service.

“He is a good-hearted man, passionate about his job and full of integrity, and who has stood tall in maintaining a very thriving and robust relationship with the Nigerian Army at all times,” Gen Okoro said.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, NYSC Rivers State, Mr Moses Oleghe, thanked the GOC for his intentional and passionate support to the scheme even when he had barely settled down in office.
Oleghe said the visit was to strengthen the bond of friendship and relationship between the Nigerian Army and the NYSC scheme, imploring the GOC to leave his doors open for the scheme.
He pledged continued collaboration with the Army to ensure safety and welfare of corps members deployed to Rivers State.
