All Progressives Congress (APC) governors under the platform of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has promised to wade into the misunderstanding between the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and the leadership of the National Assembly over the appointment of principal officers.
Forum Chairman and governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma, made the promise while dismissing the misunderstanding that National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, has declared war on the Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas-led NASS leadership.
Speaking on the sideline after the meeting between the NWC and PGF in Abuja on Tuesday, the Imo governor said that the governors will deploy all internal resolution mechanisms to restore peace in the party.
“Chairman never said that they are on their own. The National Assembly leadership belongs to our great party and they are members of our party, they are members of our party and they enjoy our support.
“If there is any way that there is a communication gap anywhere, we will make it up and we have our internal mechanism of resolving such things. The National Assembly leadership enjoys the support of PGF and that of our party. We don’t have any problem at all,” Governor Uzodinma promised.
On the trust of the meeting, the PGF boss said: “We met with NWC and reviewed among other things the outcome of the 2023 elections and identify areas that the party has to work more to strengthen the general polity and encourage the government to be able to roll out their policy.
“We congratulated ourselves the way and manner the leadership of the National Assembly was conducted. We have a Senate President who we are very confident will do well, the Deputy Senate President we are confident will do well, the Speaker and his deputy.
“In the course of the conversation, the Chairman did mention that in keeping with the Electoral Act that they are working on having an audited account that will be presented to the National Caucus. It was just mention, it has not been presented,” he said.
Speaking earlier in his introductory remarks, the Imo governor assured the party’s leadership of their readiness to defend the policies of the federal government.
“We must commend the leadership of our great party, we must commend our new brand President, who have started very well. And he is been applauded all over the world, for bold and courageous decisions he has taken. Meetings like this is really meant to brainstorm for us to contribute ideas, not only for building our party but also building the nation.
“The party has a responsibility working on progressive governors, speaking for all progressive minds in the country, to support the policies and programmes of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“While we are doing that, we also have to be ready to market these policies to critical stakeholders, the labour, the political class, the private sector, into understanding the benefits of certain decisions that have been taken off late by the government.
“We are loyal to the party completely, and we assure the leadership of the party that all the governors here are constructive partners to the job of building our part and are willing to work with the party and submit to the ideas and norms of the party .
“We don’t have another party, this party is the largest party in black and white Africa, and we will have to run with it. So, I want to congratulate all of us for the victory and successes recorded so far and by the grace of God will continue to record more successes,” he prayed.
