United States-based pharmacist, Mr. Martin Nwabueze, has criticised Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State over the Oke Ite (native doctors) law, which he said was passed two days before some native doctors were arrested.

According to him, the native doctors had said they did not even know it had become a crime in Igboland to make goodluck charms but Soludo said ignorance of the law was no defence. Subsequently, Akwa Okuko was recently jailed for two years.

Nwabueze is the co-founder of Tilova For Africa (TFA), a non-governmental organisation committed to breaking down barriers and stigmas surrounding social issues, while also providing essential resources like food and access to education for those in need.

In a statement, Nwabueze said Soludo should also be punished for the mistake he allegedly made with Anambra State money. He stated: “We must also tell Soludo that mistake like ignorance is not a defence so he must resign and be prosecuted. Nobody is above the law.

“The EFCC should act immediately before Soludo runs to the APC by mistake just like he ran to Tinubu by mistake to report his crime and ask for protection from the president. Is Soludo telling us that our N100 million transferred to a former police man’s son was a mistake.”

The Nigeria Police Force had said the N100 million paid into the personal bank account of Victor Egbetokun, son of the immediate past inspector-general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, was a mistake and was promptly reversed.

The clarification followed an online report alleging that the money originated from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account.

Nwabueze also condemned the demolition at Onitsha Main Market despite a pending court order restraining any such action. Describing the traders’ experiences as harrowing, he argued that the exercise violated the court order and disrupted livelihoods, leaving many without access to their shops and goods.
