Nigerians have been tasked to nurture members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as patriotic youths by imparting in them noble virtues that would arouse national consciousness and hunger for higher ideals in them.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara gave the task during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course for Corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.
Fubara, represented by the Secretary to Rivers State Government and Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, Tammy Danagogo, commended the Corps members for their outstanding discipline, spirit of industry and high moral tone throughout the duration of the camping exercise.
He further charged the Corps members to remain patriotic, focused and determined in the task of nation-building, while equipping themselves with relevant skills for self-employment rather than depend on paper certificates.
The governor concluded by assuring the Corps members of his administration’s total support to regularly upgrade infrastructure in the camp and ensure their welfare and security.
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of NYSC, Rivers State, Mr George Mfongang, described the Corps members as well-trained and well-equipped to meet the expectations of the NYSC scheme in particular and Nigerians at large.
He challenged the Corps members to go into the communities of the 23 Local Government Areas of the state and make positive impacts by helping the people to overcome their challenges through the execution of Community Development Service (CDS) projects.
Mr Mfongang used the occasion to thank Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers people for their passionate love for Corps members serving in the state.
