Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, yesterday, tasked the nursing graduates of Igbinedion University (IOU), Okada on adhering to the ethnical standard of the nursing profession.
He gave the task at the 7th Oath-taking/Induction of B. SC. Nursing Science graduates of the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
The Registrar, represented by the Port Harcourt Zonal Officer of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Mrs. Patricia Akpeh, Dr. Abubakar said the need for them to be meticulous in their duty as health caregivers cannot be overemphasized because they are dealing with human lives, therefore, they have to be very careful.
He admonished them further that they should be submissive, humble and be prepared to learn from those who they are going to meet in the profession adding that that is one of the sure ways to excel in their career as a nurse.
The part guest speaker at the event, Prof. Emon Umoe Duke, while speaking on the theme: Nursing Informatics and Information Technology: A Contemporary Trend In Nursing Practice, Administration, Education and Research, urged the new inductees to leverage on technology to enhance their profession.
She urged them not to see being a nurse as a mistake but a noble calling to save lives, so, they must be happy and be proud of who they are and what they do.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the the University, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, congratulated the inductees for their hard work and perseverance which has resulted in their induction and oath-taking ceremony.
He said the university has fulfilled its obligations by equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to practice their noble profession of nursing adding that it is now incumbent on them to put the knowledge gained into practice and be a good ambassadors of their alma mater.
A total of 16 graduands of the University were inducted into the nursing profession by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
