NUPRC warns public against fake contract racketeers

From Adanna Nnamani, Abuja

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has warned the public about the activities of fraudulent individuals parading themselves as agents of the Commission and peddling fake contract offers.

In a statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communication and Media, Eniola Akinkuotu, the Commission said the unscrupulous elements have been using tactics such as name-dropping and spreading misinformation on social media to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

According to the Commission, the fraudsters’ sole aim is to extort money from their victims under the guise of facilitating contracts on behalf of the NUPRC. It warned those involved in such illegal acts to desist immediately.

The regulatory body stressed that all its contracts and procurement processes are conducted transparently and strictly in line with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act 2007, as well as other extant regulations guiding public procurement.

“Therefore, anyone who transacts with a third party in order to gain an imaginary undue advantage within the NUPRC does so solely at their own risk.

“For information on any procurement, visit the NUPRC website – www.nuprc.gov.ng – or local newspapers for tenders to bid,” it added.
