From Adanna Nnamani, Abuja
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commissions (NUPRC) on Wednesday, inaugurated two key teams charged with overseeing the implementation of the Metering Audit and Advanced Cargo Declaration projects.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony at the NUPRC headquarters in Abuja, its Chief Executive, Engr, Gbenga Komolafe, said the projects align with the government’s commitment to optimize revenues and minimise operational inefficiencies in the upstream petroleum industry.
Komolafe emphasised the role of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021, staying that the projects aim to bolster regulatory oversight and ensure accurate measurement and reporting of oil production and exports.
He explained that the Metering Audit project will address critical gaps identified in the existing infrastructure, including outdated equipment and inadequate data management systems.
He added that its objectives include establishing comprehensive baseline data, conducting gap analysis, and proposing targeted interventions to enhance production and measurement standards across various locations.
The NUPRC boss reiterated the Commission’s call for collaboration among contractors, industry operators, and regulatory bodies to ensure the successful implementation of these transformative projects.
He noted that with these efforts, Nigeria aims to solidify its position as a transparent and accountable player in the global oil and gas market.
“Please note that management will frown upon any request to extend the project timeline. In conclusion, I am confident that these projects will be delivered as planned as I am personally committed to its implementation. The commission uses this opportunity to request the cooperation of all relevant stakeholders – the Contractor, Industry Operators and staff of the Commission – to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of the Federal Executive Council for considering and approving the projects which I believe, when completed, will entrench transparency in the upstream sectors and combat the menace of illegal crude oil export,” he stated.
