The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) UNICAL chapter has appointed Agomeze Saint Chukwuemeka as the official Youth Ambassador for the 28th Nigerian University Games scheduled to hold at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) in 2026.
The appointment, announced on June 8, is aimed at strengthening youth engagement, promoting participation among students and advancing the objectives of the competition, tagged, “Paradise Games.”
NUGA described Chukwuemeka as a visionary leader and youth advocate, whose appointment aligns with the association’s commitment to excellence, integrity, service and youth development.
As Youth Ambassador, he is expected to inspire young people, foster unity among students across campuses and support initiatives that promote sportsmanship and peaceful coexistence.
Accepting the appointment, he expressed gratitude to the leadership of NUGA and the University of Calabar for finding him worthy of the role.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to accept the appointment as the Official Youth Ambassador of the 28th Nigerian University Games, UNICAL 2026 – Paradise Games,” he said.
He described the appointment as more than a title, saying it represents “a call to service, leadership and impact.”
According to him, NUGA has remained one of Nigeria’s most influential platforms for youth development, talent discovery, sportsmanship and national unity, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds to compete and build lasting relationships.
He pledged to use his platform, network and experience to support the vision of NUGA 2026 and help make the event one of the most successful editions in the history of university sports in Nigeria.
He said his priorities would include mobilising students across the country to participate in the Games, promoting the values of excellence, discipline, leadership and sportsmanship, increasing awareness of NUGA 2026 across campuses and digital platforms, and facilitating strategic partnerships with corporate organisations, government institutions, development agencies, media organisations and private-sector stakeholders.
“I firmly believe that sports is not just about competition; it is a vehicle for education, national development, economic opportunities and youth empowerment,” he said.
“Through strategic collaborations and partnerships, we can create greater opportunities for student-athletes and elevate the impact of NUGA beyond the competition itself.”
He also called on athletes preparing to represent their institutions to compete with passion, integrity and excellence, while inviting potential partners and stakeholders to support the Games.
“To our potential partners and stakeholders, I extend an open invitation to join us in shaping a historic Games that will leave a lasting legacy for generations of Nigerian students,” he said.
Chukwuemeka added that his vision is to transform NUGA 2026 into “a national movement that celebrates youth excellence, unity, innovation and the limitless potential of Nigerian students.”
The 28th NUGA Games will be hosted by the University of Calabar and is expected to attract thousands of student-athletes from tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The event remains the country’s foremost university sports festival and a major platform for talent discovery and youth integration.
The UNICAL 2026 Games will hold under the slogan, “One Nation. One Campus. One Vision,” with organisers expressing confidence that the appointment of Chukwuemeka will further boost awareness, participation and stakeholder support for the competition.
