Galatasaray have confirmed that striker Victor Osimhen will be sidelined for around three weeks after scans revealed a groin injury sustained in Friday’s 3–2 win over İstanbul Başakşehir.
The 27-year-old Nigeria international scored the opening goal before being withdrawn in the 33rd minute. MRI scans taken in Istanbul showed moderate strain and tendon irritation in the groin, and the club’s medical staff have opted against pain-masking injections, with experts warning that playing through such an injury risks longer-term structural damage.
The layoff means Osimhen will miss three key fixtures: Galatasaray’s Champions League opener against Sporting CP, and Süper Lig matches against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.

Galatasaray also confirmed a second injury blow, with midfielder Mario Lemina — substituted at halftime of the same match — diagnosed with a muscle tear that will keep him out for two to three weeks.
In Osimhen’s absence, manager Okan Buruk is expected to lean on new €10 million signing Deniz Gül and winger Barış Alper Yılmaz to lead the attack across both domestic and European competition.
The injury also has implications for Nigeria, as Osimhen will miss the Super Eagles’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month — against Madagascar on September 23 and Guinea-Bissau four days later.
