The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of six new undergraduate academic programmes for the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT), Minna for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval follows a resource assessment exercise conducted by a panel of experts from the NUC to evaluate the human and material resources available for the establishment of the proposed programmes at the university.
A statement by the public relations officer of the university, Mrs. Lydia Legbo, in Minna on Friday listed the newly approved full-time Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) programmes to include Artificial Intelligence, Intelligence and Security Studies, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Science, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, and Mining Engineering.
According to the statement, the approval was conveyed in a letter signed on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei.
According to the letter, the programmes will be offered on a full-time basis at the university’s main campus and will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

According to him, a total of 174 research grants valued at N7.5 billion were awarded to research teams across Nigerian tertiary institutions following a rigorous and highly competitive selection process.
He disclosed that FUT, Minna emerged as the highest beneficiary institution, securing 18 research grants ahead of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, which secured 11 grants. Other institutions that performed strongly in the exercise include Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 10 grants; the University of Ilorin, eight; Bayero University, Kano and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka seven each; the University of Jos, six; while the University of Ibadan, University of Lagos Akoka and Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto recorded five grant each.
He disclosed that the grants span several priority areas critical to national development, including Health and Social Welfare, Agriculture and Food Security, Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Terrestrial Ecosystems, Science and Engineering, Power and Energy, Blue Economy, Innovation and Technology in National Defence Capabilities, Clean and Affordable Energy, Education and Human Capital Development, Gender, Equity and Social Inclusion, as well as Conflict, Defence and Security.
