An aspirant for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket in Anambra South Senatorial District, Hon. Chinedu Nsofor, has dismissed reports that he has withdrawn from the race.

In a swift statement issued to newsmen at his Owerri residence, Nsofor described the report as “false, misleading, and the handiwork” of co-aspirants who view him as a major challenger. He said the NDC leadership in Anambra brought the reports to his attention.

“I want to make it categorically clear that at no time have I imagined or thought of disappointing the confidence reposed in me by my people by stepping down for any aspirant,” Nsofor said.

He added that he continues to enjoy “overwhelming support across the seven local government areas” of Anambra South.

Nsofor also revealed that his aspiration has the support of two former Nigerian presidents: General Ibrahim Babangida (retrd), and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

“I have the support and backing of former Presidents who believe in my vision for Anambra South,” he said.

The aspirant referenced “irregularities” around the NDC’s May 29 primaries and urged supporters to disregard unofficial results circulating on social media.

“The Nigeria Democratic Congress remains supreme and has the final decision to make regarding who becomes its candidate,” Nsofor said. “Nobody should parade himself as the winner. The party is yet to make a final decision.”

He called on his supporters across Anambra South to “remain steadfast” and await the NDC national leadership’s official announcement. Nsofor thanked party leaders, stakeholders, and the two former presidents for their “unwavering support.”
