Team Delta has extended its lead on the medals table at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) with 127 confirmed medals.
As at Monday, Team Delta leads with 80 medals.
In the latest medals table released by the organisers, Team Delta has recorded 69 gold medals, 33 silver medals and 25 bronze medals.
Team Edo moved up the medals table after impressive performances by Kungfu and Taekwondo athletes in day six outings, pushing their Gold harvest to twenty four to occupy 2nd position .
Edo harvested six gold medals in Para powerlifting,8 silver and 3 Bronze followed by Kungfu -3 Gold,6 Silver and 7 Bronze.
Team Edo, known for high performance in combat sports also did well in Taekwondo with a harvest of 3 Gold ,2 Silver and 5 Bronze medals
The state also showed class in Deaf athletics ,Para Table Tennis,Cycling and Judo.
The Edo female volleyball team were also impressed with a 3-1 victory over Team Rivers to qualify for the semifinals scheduled for Thursday.
Meanwhile, Delta State Governor,Dr lfeanyi Okowa has challenged the current crop of Athletes,competing for honours at the 21st National sports festival to seize the opportunity of Delta 2022 Games to break the 33-year-old record set by Mr Yusuf Alli in 1989.
Yusuf Alli, who is now the Executive chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, set personal best record Personal Best: LJ – 8.27 (1989) in Long Jump.
The Delta State Governor said the Olympian Alli’s personal best of 8.27 metres in the Long Jump event in 1989 during the African Athletics Championship in Lagos still stands as Nigeria’s best in that event.
