The Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has empowered upcoming innovators on entrepreneurial skills.
Speaking at the opening of its fifth edition of Innovation Week, its chairman, Adedotun Femi said that the week started two months earlier with booth camp virtual training on entrepreneurial skills.
He said the training gave opportunities for prospective innovators to learn and acquire requisite skills in innovation drive that would take their business to the next level.
He said that the innovation week by the NSE in Ikeja started in 2019 and that this year was the fifth edition with the theme “Transforming waste into wealth: Advancing the 7Rs of sustainable waste management.”
He said the theme was carefully chosen to sharpen the minds of participants on the need for the utilisation of waste into valuable end products that generate wealth to the people and to boost the economy.
“Our aim is to help nurture upcoming innovators by repositioning them to the idea of creativity thereby developing their potentials.
We have also positioned ourselves in such a way that could help schools in reshaping their innovative ideas through partnership and mutual collaborations that exist between NSE Ikeja branch and corporate, private, tertiary institutions and government ministries, department and agencies.
“We encourage everyone to take advantage of this one-week long program to better their lot. The participating schools are also encouraged to put in their best as the program promises to help them to expand their innovative ideas into a scalable and marketable products that will not only bring fortunes to them but serve as a yardstick for technological revolution in the country.”
Guest speaker, Ayobami Okanola, promised to pursue the various projects of the participating students until they became valuable products.
He said waste management from its inception to its final disposal requires monitoring and regulation process, adding that waste related laws, technologies and economic mechanisms was very important.

He said if that is done, empowerment would become stronger and more confident, especially controlling one’s life and claiming one’s life.
Also contributing, the committee chairman, Olubowale Rotimi commended all the executives as well as other members for their support and contribution in making the event a success.
Some of the dignitaies at the event include Idiat Adermi Amusu, Engr. Francis Oguamanam, Mrs Okusanya Blessing, among others.
According to the organisers, the deputy governor of Lagos State Obafemi Hamzat would be at the closing of the event and the schools that came first, second and third would be given prizes.
