Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesman of the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, has accused presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi of working against Igbo presidency.
Okonkwo made the claim in an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’ on Thursday.
He stated this while responding to a question on his opposition to Obi.
According to him, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presents the surest path for the actualisation of Igbo presidency.
Okonkwo slammed Obi for reneging on a promise he allegedly made to vie for the presidency on the ADC platform.
“Peter Obi is the one who is now working against Igbo presidency and vice presidency because he came to the ADC on his own, and he said he was going to contest under the ADC, and he left about just one week to the close of time,” Okonkwo stated.
The lawyer and sociopolitical commentator noted that Rotimi Amaechi’s emergency as ADC vice-presidential candidate further convinced him ADC was the surest path to Igbo presidency.
“I am talking about geopolitical balancing because Amaechi is Igbo; he is already the vice presidential candidate. And that is why I am saying that is what makes me to even become more favourably disposed that ADC is the surest path to Igbo presidency,” he explained.
He said Amaechi is Igbo and would become Nigeria’s vice-president after the 2027 general election, hence his satisfaction with the Atiku-Amaechi pairing.
