From Abdurrazaq Mungadi, Gombe
The Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured the public of measures to tackle alleged violent protesters planning to disrupt the peace at the end of this month in Gombe.
The Gombe State NSCDC Commandant, Muhammad Bello Muazu, revealed that the command had gathered intelligence about some groups and individuals arming thugs with machetes and other dangerous weapons to harm innocent residents and their property during the protests. He explained that the NSCDC had identified the need to intervene and developed an appropriate operational order to ensure peace and order in the state.
The Commandant added that the NSCDC had outlined a comprehensive plan that includes increased surveillance, intelligence gathering, and the strategic deployment of personnel to areas prone to violence. The corps will be working with other security agencies and local authorities, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure law and order are maintained in Gombe.
Muazu stated this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Gombe, shortly after parading a group of seven suspects for fertiliser adulteration. Speaking about the suspects arrested by his men in the Gombe metropolis, the Commandant stated that the suspects specialised in sourcing limestone from Katsina State for their business in Gombe.

Bello said, “Our attention has been drawn to the wicked activities going on here, where these people sell sand as fertiliser during this hardship. This is simply wickedness; how can you sell sand in place of fertiliser?” While urging farmers to examine the product before buying it, Muazu noted that farmers needing fertiliser should buy only from authorised dealers.
“Members of the public, especially farmers, must desist from arbitrarily buying fertiliser without checks. You should be able to see what you want to buy. You can’t just go anywhere to get fertiliser; otherwise, you will fall victim to such adulterated products,” he added, while leading a raid on the fertiliser mixing factory in the Nasarawo area of Gombe metropolis.
Meanwhile, the plant manager of the adulterated fertiliser factory, Usman Abubakar, said they had so far produced over 1,000 bags at the plant, which was recently established in Gombe. He added that the raw materials for the products came from Katsina State.
“We used to get it [the limestone] from Kankara Local Government Area in Katsina. We used to get red limestone, white limestone, potash, etc. We started production in Kano State about two years ago, but we have now moved our production to Gombe. We have produced over 1,000 bags in Gombe State,” he confessed.
