Bendel Insurance forced Enyimba International to 1-1 draw in the Nigeria Professional Football League Championship play-off tie at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, yesterday.
Sadiq Abubakar scored a brilliant individual goal to put Enyimba ahead in the 22nd minute, while Divine Nwachukwu headed home on 37 minutes to restore parity, ensuring Bendel Insurance sustains their unbeaten run.
It was Edo Arsenal’s third draw in as many fixtures of the series, after they drew goalless against Lobi Stars in their opening match and were held 1-1 by Sunshine Stars on Matchday 2.
The NPFL returnees can aptly be described as draw survivalists, having recorded 10 draws during the regular season, totalling 13 draws in 21 matches this season.
Today’s result left them with three points and third on the log behind Enyimba and Rivers United, and could seriously hamper the team’s chances of emerging among the three teams to represent Nigeria in the CAF championships.
In the second match of the day, both Remo Stars and Sunshine Stars also settled for a 1-1 draw.
