Youths in Nsukka town have joined their counterparts in hailing President Muhammadu Buhari’s Thursday signing into law of the ‘Not Too Young to Run’ Bill.
The youths, in a separate interview with our reporter, in Nsukka, on Friday, described it as a welcome development that would empower youths to contest various political elective positions in the country.
Pioneer representative of Enugu North senatorial district in Nigeria Youth Parliament, Mr. Chinaeme Onyeka, said the signing of the Bill into law was encouraging and a right step in a right direction.
Onyeka however, urged government to go a step further to reserve certain elective political positions for youths.
“Yes, Buhari has done well in signing not too young to run bill into law but certain electives positions should be reserved for youths so that older people in politics will not used their money power to win all positions during election.
“For this law to achieve its objective of empowering youths politically, all political parties should be directed to reserve some positions for youths.
“Also both INEC and political parties should peg particular amount of money for youths who want to buy form to contest election since youths do not have much money like older politicians, ” he said.

Mr. Anthony Chidozie, former Supervisor of Youths and Sports in Nsukka LGA commended Buhari for giving youths in the country sense of belonging and participation in politics.
“with this development there is hope in the saying that youths are future leaders in this country.
“The signing of the bill into has opened a new chapter for elective positions for youths as age is no longer a barrier.
“I hail Buhari for signing not too young to run bill into law, its a welcome development that will encourage more youths to participate in politics,” he said.
Mr. Fortuatus Chimezie, the President, Students Union Government (SUG) University of Nigeria, Nsukka said the signing of not too young bill by Mr President was a welcome development that would grant youths more active participation in politics.
“the singing of the bill into law has opened a new era for youths in politics.
“it’s now left for youths in the country to speak in voice as well as support fellow youths vying for elective positions so that he or she will win
“I commend the Mr. President for signing that bill into law, is a welcome development in the country,” he said.
