Daniel Daga, a midfielder with Nigeria’s U20 national team, has been sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Romsdal district court in Norway after being found guilty of sexual assault.
The ruling was delivered on Tuesday following a case involving an alleged incident with a woman last year. The court also ordered the footballer to pay NOK 10,000 in legal costs as requested by prosecutors.
Daga, who currently plays for Molde FK, was accused of sexually assaulting an unnamed woman in April. The 19-year-old Nigerian was formally charged on December 19, 2025.
Despite the conviction, his lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, insisted that the encounter was consensual and said the player would challenge the verdict at a higher court.

“He is terribly sorry that the verdict was the way it was,” Bolstad said. “He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent.”
Reacting to the development, Molde confirmed that the Nigerian midfielder has been suspended from team activities pending further legal proceedings.
“Based on the situation and the ongoing legal process, the club has decided that the player will not be part of the match squad until further notice,” the Norwegian club said in a statement.
Daga joined Molde at the start of the 2025 season and has made 15 appearances for the club, scoring three goals since arriving in the Norwegian top flight.
