Nollywood took the city of Abuja by storm recently, as the industry celebrated its annual new yam festival. It was indeed an eventful day as celebrities were dressed in beautiful traditional regalia, representing various tribes in Nigeria.
According to the chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria (Abuja chapter), Agility Onwurah, the significance of the event was to promote cultural values among actors.
“New yam festival in Igbo land is a season to appreciate God for a bountiful harvest. It’s a time of thanksgiving, a season to give love and strengthen unity. In addition, it is to showcase our culture irrespective of our traditional beliefs,” he says.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director, Metro Group of Companies and grand patron, Nollywood Abuja chapter, Frank Okosisi Anyijiofor, called for togetherness among artistes.
