No project’ll be abandoned in Lagos –Akinderu-Fatai

The Lagos State Ministry of Housing has assured that the successful completion of all ongoing housing projects at various stages of construction across the state remains a key priority of the incumbent administration.

The Commissioner, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, reaffirmed this as its commitment to providing more shelters for Lagosians and positively addressing the housing needs of residents across the state.

The Commissioner also assured residents that in line with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for 2026, he will not leave any project uncompleted. He gave the assurance while reviewing the progress the Ministry has made in 2025, especially with the successful delivery and commissioning of Akinsanya Sunny Ajose and Abraham Adesanya Parcels A and B projects. The Commissioner charged all heads of departments to ensure tasks and progress of work at all the project sites reflect quality planning and excellence delivery.

‘’We must all work assiduously to ensure Sangotedo Phase II, Egan-Igando Cluster II and III, Ibeshe Phase II as well as all joint venture projects are delivered for Mr Governor’s commissioning,’’ he said. The Commissioner further added that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, private developers and financial institutions to ensure the successful implementation of its housing programmes in alignment with the State Government’s THEMES+ Agenda. He said that there are intervention plans to address the menace of abandoned buildings in the state.

In the same vein, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Mr. Abdulhafis Toriola, emphasized the importance of universal ethos such as hard work, justice, integrity and the need to seek blessings of Almighty God in official dealings. He reminded the staff that ‘’effort is the key to success while our work should be done to the best of our ability as a form of devotion’’.

Toriola stated this during a New Year prayer session with management and staff of the Ministry. He stated that the Ministry remains fully committed to delivering on its mandate of ensuring that more Lagosians have access to decent, safe, sustainable and affordable homes. The Permanent Secretary further disclosed that, in line with the Ministry’s mandate and the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) Law. He said that the Government is intensifying efforts to address the increasing number of abandoned buildings across the state.

He explained that the State will seek to use the existing laws to intervene for the completion of these abandoned properties and consequentially increase the Lagos State housing stock, improve the urban landscape and enhance public safety.
