Prophet Williams Onuoha of the Gallilie Christian Centre in Lagos has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to Onuoha, Kanu’s continued detention is detrimental to the country and the government. Onuoha, who recently visited Kanu in detention, highlighted his poor health condition, emphasising the need for medical attention.

Excerpts:

Kanu’s detention

Nnamadi Kanu is not just for the Igbos or for Biafra. He is a man for Nigeria, Africa, and the entire world. He is a leader, prophet, father, provider, and helper to a lot of people.

I visited him recently, and I can tell you categorically that he truly needs medical attention. He is also human like many of us. He is where he is today because he spoke the truth, and this offended a lot of people. Keeping him in detention is bad for the country and also bad for the government. What is his offence? He wants better treatment for his people. That’s all. He is not just fighting for the Igbo but for all the indigenous people of Nigeria.  The country’s current president, Kanu, predicted his victory. He had warned that all who challenged him would be disgraced at the election. And it happened. What we are saying is he should be released unconditionally and allow to seek proper medical attention.

If they expect him to beg, that I can tell you for free, he won’t do it because he has not committed any offence. Let us not pray for anything bad to happen to him. His case is no longer Igbo problem, but a national matter. For Nigeria, the truth is finally coming out. Kanu said Nigeria is not working. Even the President knows that the country is not working.  When has ‘treat my people’ well’ becomes an offence? Because of the way we are treated, Kanu said no. Today, the government goes into the bushes to negotiate with terrorists. Is this a country that wants to grow? People are now waking up. Soon, we will have 1000 Omoyele Sowores, 20,000 Dele Farotimis, 100,000 VDMs, and so many others. The days of suppressing and oppressing the people are coming to an end.

Proposed protest for Kanu’s release

Protest is good, but my fear is hoodlums high-jacking  the process. Let the people come out and protest, but it should be peaceful because Kanu is a man of peace. Let the government do the right thing by releasing Kanu before the protest date. That’s not too much to ask. A lot of people keep asking why the government is afraid of Nnamadi Kanu.  And I will tell you this for free. Kanu is not a terrorist, he has no gun, and he is not muscular like VDM. They are afraid of him because they feel he knows too much. This is a man who is outspoken. He is not afraid to speak the truth.Kanu demanded a referendum.  Sunday Igboho did the same, but today, he is a free man. If that’s not injustice, I wonder what it is. We have read from IBB’s book that the 1966 coup was not an Igbo coup. Now the truth is out.  Let those who accused us seek forgiveness.  We see a mad man, and we laugh and throw stones at him. But the day he dies, that day you will know he has a family.

Hope for a better Nigeria

Let us return to regionalism. And the way it’s looking, that will be impossible.  Even the West wouldn’t allow us to achieve that. Our leaders, too, know it’s not possible. Except we want to continue to deceive ourselves. Don’t forget Nigeria is a very big country, blessed by the Almighty God with abundant resources. We have been divided by tribe and religion, and the leaders have to keep oiling that division so that we don’t get out of it. They know the day we are liberated; it’s game over. The heart of man is indeed wicked. See what is happening to our children. Our best hands are leaving the country.  Everyone wants to Japa. They know the day Africa opens its eyes, it all over. The West doesn’t wish Africa well, and our leaders have successfully made that possible.

Insecurity

I said something in 2014 concerning Boko Haram. I said it won’t stop, that it has come to stay. Look at Chukuma Soludo of Anambra State, fighting native doctors. Where are the jobs, where is the security? Yet you want the people to be loyal.  It doesn’t work that way. In developed countries, people don’t go to church for the system to work. The system works because the government is working.  It is the job of government to make the system work. In our society, it’s not so. You don’t hold fasting and prayers for insecurity to disappear, for good roads and electricity to be available. The government is supposed to provide a solution for that. You see the difference? That’s why the system is working there, and it’s not here. In the West, they pay you to become a priest. Here, we sell lands to make our kids priests because we believe that when the child becomes one, poverty disappears from the family. Look at what’s happening now. People no longer have regard for religious leaders because many no longer speak the truth. In the next few years, Christianity will not be that popular because people would have become tired. In the West, people go to church because they love God. Here we go because we want something from God. Because of money, many have lost respect for religious leaders. Many no longer speak the truth.
