The Comptroller‑General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has kicked off a zero-tolerance-to extortion campaign for officers of the service.

Addressing NIS personnel during a sensitisation and anti‑corruption awareness event in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Nandap sternly warned officers against abusing their uniforms for monetary gain and reminded them to uphold their oath of office and protect the service’s image.

Speaking on the campaign theme, “Innovating for Transparency and Efficiency: Strengthening Service Delivery and Combating Corruption Through Reforms”, she said the NIS mission is to bolster Nigeria’s security and prosperity through proactive, effective and efficient border and migration management.

Nandap, represented by Superintendent Chike Okogbue at the ceremony, said, “When we compromise standards for monetary benefits, we are gambling with Nigeria’s safety. When we cut corners, we open doors for traffickers, criminal elements, and threats to national unity. We have digitised our processes; the future now demands that we digitalise our minds. The accountability chain starts with individuals.”

Earlier, Imo State Comptroller, Emmanuel Okoro, welcomed guests and pledged that the campaign would move from “a beautiful theme into tangible actions.” He promised to fight against corruption in the service.

The sensitisation march by NIS officers was also attended by personnel from sister agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Fire Service, Imo State Command, Owerri.
