The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification for the provision of aeronautical meteorological services at Yola, Osubi and Owerri airports.
The feat followed a successful third-party audit of NiMet’s products and services at the three airports by Certech Registration Inc., Canada, conducted from July 20 to 23, 2026.
According to the agency, its services were found to conform to the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 standard after a rigorous assessment of its quality management system.
The latest certification is in line with the directive of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to NiMet’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Charles Anosike, to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and sustain the upward movement of Nigeria’s rating by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
NiMet said it had also been successfully recertified to the ISO 9001:2015 standard at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; Enugu International Airport; and Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
The certification, which is valid for three years, would be subject to annual surveillance and maintenance audits before the next recertification exercise, due in 2029.
In a July 26, 2026, letter to Anosike, Certech Lead Auditor and Director, Frank Strohmeier, said the objectives of the surveillance audit had been achieved.

“The audit objectives for the surveillance audit were achieved.
“A systematic process audit was performed with emphasis on risks and objectives per ISO 9001:2015,” Strohmeier stated.
The third-party audit subsequently resulted in the issuance of a revised certificate affirming that “the Nigerian Meteorological Agency quality management system conforms to the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 for the provision of meteorological services to the aviation industry.”
The agency described the certification at Yola, Osubi and Owerri as particularly significant, as it marked the first time its aeronautical meteorological products and services at the three airports had undergone the ISO 9001:2015 certification audit.
Reacting to the development, Anosike said the achievement reflected the commitment of the agency’s Quality Management System team to improving standards across its operational locations.
“We are excited about this. Our Quality Management System (QMS) team led by Rotimi Adenubi has been working round the clock to achieve this feat,” he said.
Anosike, however, said the agency would not rest on the achievement, stressing that its management remained focused on improving standards across all its operational locations.
