Convener, Ihe Abia, Ichie, Dr. Emeka Okpara, has said that the 2027 general elections would be magical, spring surprises, and usher in the real change Nigerians desire.
He insisted: “The real change Nigerians need at both the federal and state levels would come in 2027, because the current government has disappointed Nigerians in all facets of our national life. It is obvious, and clear to everyone that even the governors who ran to the ruling party in the name of ‘align with the centre’ have failed the people woefully, and the people would vote them out without hesitation.”
When Okpara, who spoke at his 50th birthday in Enugu, Enugu State, was reminded that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has 32 governors. He responded: “The 32 governors have only 32 votes. Let me tell Nigerians that power belongs to the people. Nobody can change that truth which is self-evident.
“That was exactly why I said that 2027 would be magical, because, even with all the governors and state apparatuses under their control, the people would still vote them out.
“It is unfortunate that more people have been driven into poverty in the last three years. We are told that the governors are getting more money because of the removal of fuel subsidies, but the more money does not reflect on the lives of the average Nigerians.

“There is no power for homes and businesses, inflation has taken away the purchasing power of Nigerians. The minimum wage cannot take anyone home; insecurity is heightened as Nigerians are slaughtered like animals every day. And the government keeps making excuses every day.”
He praised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for providing an alternative for Nigerians and encouraged the party’s leadership to keep pushing harder: “While those in power have put many stumbling blocks in the way of the ADC, their steadfastness is awesome and commendable.
“To show that Nigerians have lost faith with the ruling party, millions of the citizens are defecting to the ADC, a testament to the hope the people have in the power of the coalition to redeem Nigeria.
“I must advise Nigerians to remain vigilant and not be tricked by political jobbers who would want to bribe them with peanuts for their votes. It is our responsibility to elect good people into government, because that is the only way we can secure our future.
“I also call on politicians to remain responsible and ensure that they put the interest of the society before self.” He urged Nigerians and civil society organisations to continue to hold the leaders to account and ensure that taxpayer’s money works for the people and not for individuals.
