Nigerian triple jump champion convicted in US for rape

Nigerian and African triple jump champion, Emmanuel Ineh has been jailed for alleged sexual assault in Alabama, USA.

According to WBRC news website, Ineh is charged with first -degree rape and is in the Tuscaloosa County jail.

The reports stated that investigation into the sexual assault is ongoing, adding that the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department is urging “anyone who believes they were a victim of a sexual assault by Ineh is encouraged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (205) 464-8690.”

Ineh was one of Nigeria’s best talents in the long and triple Jumps and got his college scholarship to study at William Carey University before transferring to the University of Alabama.

The 2018 Youth Olympic Games silver medalist won various conference titles for his school breaking records in the process, which made many pundits tip him as the next to break the National Records in both events.

In November 2022, a United States District Court in Hattiesburg, Mississippi State found Emmanuel Ineh, 23, and Toluwani Adebakin, 25, guilty of transferring thousands of dollars to Nigeria as part of a complex fraud scheme.

According to court documents, Ineh and Adebakin pleaded guilty to violations of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1957, for engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activities, collectively sending tens of thousands of illicitly obtained proceeds to fraudsters in Nigeria as part of a larger mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering conspiracy.
