The Nigerian Army has held the traditional “pull out” ceremony for 34 generals from the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, who were retired recently.
A break down of the figure indicates that 32 Brigadier General and two Major Generals were among those retired.
The two Major Generals include, Major General Ikechukwu Okeke (Rtd) and Major General A. Kigbu (Rtd), with 32 Brigadiers.
A pulling out ceremony was held at 65 Battalion Parade Ground, Bonny Cantonment Victoria Island and it witnessed a colourful parade by officers and men of the Nigerian Army.
the retirement of these men is coming three years since most of them retired, to these marks a befitting end to their meritorious service to the country.
Major General Obinna Ajunwa GOC of 81 Division represented the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya.
In his address, the guest of honour, Major Ikechuwku Okeke (Rtd) appreciated the Nigerian Army for remembering the service they rendered to the country for 35years. “this shows that Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Army Medical Corps still value the age long customs and tradition”.
Thanking God, he remarked that he was happy the privilege to retire from service in good physical and mental health. although it could have been better one retires voluntarily than compulsory.
The General who started his career 47years ago in Zaria as a boy solider rose to the rank of Major Generals before retirement. He upheld patient, self discipline, hard work, commitment to duties and especially the grace of God as what could take a person to the top, without lobbying.
He urged the Nigerian Army to see the need to making sure Ex-Boys medicals can aspire to become doctors, pharmacist and other medical professionals in the Army without the prospect of a gloomy future.
He reminded the Nigerian Army that they are available and still actively able to render service to the Army and to the country.
He advised his retired colleagues to take care of their health, keep fit, go for regular check medical checkup, rest and eat well.
